San Fernando Farm
The San Fernando Farm only began to take shape naively in mid-2006, when Don Gonzalo Mancilla, a public accountant by profession and a family man, decided to buy a completely abandoned farm, a dream that was fueled by the money he had spent when he quit his job, hoping to revive his rural origins.
In its beginnings, the farm was abandoned and deforested due to its use for livestock, with the main house in ruins, having been dynamited by one of its previous owners, because there was supposedly a treasure buried there. In the beginning, the San Fernando Farm was dedicated to poultry, fish and livestock production, as well as some crops for self-consumption. But faithful to his roots, Don Gonzalo decided to venture into coffee growing, planting a small plot of coffee, and reliving those memories of his childhood, in the middle of the countryside and the coffee plantations.
The San Fernando farm is geographically located on the northeastern side of the Meseta de los Santos, at 1,560 m above sea level in the “El Guamo” area, belonging to the municipality of Piedecuesta; it has 10 hectares of which currently 2 hectares are native conservation forest and 8 hectares are dedicated to the production of specialty coffees under native shade trees, which allow us to carry out sustainable hillside agriculture ensuring food and the survival of endemic and migratory birds.
From the beginning, the San Fernando farm has been committed to the sustainability of its environment and neighborhood called "Planet Earth", being aware that everything we do will affect others sooner or later and regardless of where they are, that is why we currently strive to fully comply with the international sustainability standard "Rainforest Alliance", promoting the conservation of natural ecosystems, and in turn the safety, well-being and fair conditions of the people related to the activity.
